How to Avoid Getting Banned on WhatsApp
Adhering to WhatsApp's policies is crucial to maintain your account's health and avoid potential flags or blocks. Here are key compliance points to keep in mind:
1. Warm-Up Your Number
The age of your WhatsApp number matters. A number that has just been registered is immediately "under suspicion" by WhatsApp. Therefore, it is very important to "warm up" the number by sending and receiving messages and files with real users for a few days before linking it to any API. Do not scan the QR code to link your number to an API immediately after registering it; wait at least a day.
2. Get Explicit User Opt-In
Always get clear consent from users before sending them messages. A great way to do this is to have them message you first. You can encourage this by placing a "Contact Us on WhatsApp" button on your website or by using a contact link with a pre-written greeting. When you do send the first message, ask a question to encourage a response, as this will improve your response rate.
3. Respect Opt-Out Requests
Provide a clear and easy way for users to opt-out of receiving messages. For example, you can add a sentence like, "Reply 'STOP' to unsubscribe." This makes it easier for the user to opt-out rather than reporting your number for spam.
4. Avoid Spam and Mass Messaging
Do not send unsolicited messages in bulk. If your number hasn't been very active, you should gradually increase your messaging activity. For instance, don't suddenly start creating a large number of groups if you haven't done so before. As a starting point, it is recommended not to send more than two messages per minute, for more than six hours a day, and for more than three days in a row.
5. Maintain a High-Quality Rating and Response Rate
WhatsApp monitors the quality rating of your phone number based on user feedback. Strive to get responses to your messages. If you send a lot of messages and get no replies, you risk getting banned. Aim for at least a 30% response rate for every 100 messages you send.
6. Personalize Your Messages
Make your messages unique by changing the text and addressing the recipient by name. Avoid sending the same message to many people without considering if it's relevant to them.
7. Be Careful with Links
Avoid sending links in the first message. When you do send links, make sure they are secure (HTTPS) and consider using a URL shortening service.
8. Use a Complete Profile
Add a profile picture and a useful description to your WhatsApp profile. A complete profile is perceived as more legitimate.
9. Mimic Human Behavior
The more your interactions resemble real conversations, the lower your risk of being blocked. Here are some tips:
- Randomize the pauses between sending messages.
- Respond to messages from users.
By following these guidelines, you can significantly reduce the risk of your account being flagged or blocked, ensuring smooth communication with your customers.
